1960年代後半、Rocky Mountain Featherbed(以下RMFB)は、
アメリカ･ワイオミング州(俗称カウボーイ･ステイツ)のジャクソンホールで産声を上げる。
ネイティブアメリカンの英知が生み出したレザーケープを参考に、
継ぎ目の無い一枚革を使ったウエスタンヨークをアイコンとしたカウボーイ向けのウェアが完成。
それが、羽毛布団(FEATHERBED)のような防寒性、保温性を保証するダウンベストだ。
NOLS(ナショナル･アウトドアー･リーダーシップ･スクール)を卒業した創業者は
その経験とサバイバルスキルを生かし、
1974年当時最高のハイテク素材であったGORE TEX®素材をいち早く採用。
一枚革ヨーク仕様のマウンテンパーカを完成させた。
さらなる飛躍を遂げるかに思われたが、残念ながら1980年代後半にブランドは消滅してしまう。
同じ頃、一人の日本人がRMFBの収集を始める。
そして20年という歳月を経て研究と試作を重ね、
オリジナルをも超えるリプロダクツが完成したのは2005年秋。
現在、私たちサーティーファイブサマーズ社は、
一枚断ちのレザーヨーク、天然ムートンを使用した襟など、確かな価値を受け継ぎつつ、
さらに“現代”というエッセンスを加え、他に類を見ない贅沢な製品を生み出しています。
そして今なお、世代を超えて世界中の人々を魅了し続けています。

Rocky Mountain Featherbed was founded in Jackson Hole in Wyoming known as "the Cowboy State", U.S.A., in the late 1960s. The company created its iconic down vest with a seamless single-piece leather yoke for cowboys. The idea of the yoke came from the leather capes that Native Americans were wearing. Its down vests became very famous for its cold-proof and heat-retaining features like those of feather beds. The founder of Rocky Mountain Featherbed is a pioneer of using GORE TEX® that was the most high-tech materials at that time. His outdoor knowledge learned at National Outdoor Leadership School and survival skills helped him to develop a GORE TEX® mountain parka with the leather yoke. It was thought that the brand would have been growing further, however, it ended up disappearing in the 1980s. 35 SUMMERS CO., LTD has succeeded in reproduction of the famous down vests in 2005 and even surpassed the original products after 20 years of research on the vintage Rocky Mountain Featherbed. Today, we produce unique luxury down products sustaining the solid value of the brand's original traditions, such as the yoke cut out of a single-piece of leather and the natural mouton collar, and adding contemporariness. Rocky Mountain Featherbed attracts many people in the world through generations. Our aim is to provide customers with the joy of wearing the timeless value of Rocky Mountain Featherbed that can be immediately felt when its products are put on.

DETAILS OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN FETHERBED

• CLASSIC TAFETTA

  

  HERITAGEラインには必要不可欠な素材でブランドの顔ともいえるダウンベスト作成の為に特注している70Dナイロンタフタ。現在一般的に市場に流通しているナイロンタフタは打込み本数210本で裏面にアクリルコーティングを施し生地の目を塞ぐことで防水性を持たせているが、通気性がほとんどない。CLASSIC TAFFETAはそれよりも50本以上打込みを増やした高密度タフタで、さらにコーティングではなくシレー加工を施すことにより通気性も確保しながらも同等の防水性を実現している。

  Rocky Mountain Featherbed has succeeded in producing special CLASSIC TAFFETA for Heritage line by re-producing and improving 70D Nylon Taffeta from the 70’s. 210 warp threads are used for the conventional one while the special one obtained much higher density by using 260 warp threads. Because of this, CLASSIC TAFFETA is as water-repellent as the normal Nylon Taffeta without acrylic coating that is needed for the conventional one to be water-repellent. At the same time, the fabric gained great breathability for down insulation to be puffy.

  ダウンはヨーロッパ産のダウンを採用。ダウン90%、フェザー10%の配合率であり、あえてフェザーを１０％入れる事でロフト感を出している。クオリティーの高さを保つため、ダウンの洗浄は日本国内で行っている。

  Adopting European down. In order to produce the best volume and touch, the blending ratio of 90% down and 10% feather. The down are washed in Japan to keep its high quality.

• MOUTON

  

  クリスティーベストの襟に使用したムートンはアメリカの原皮を使用している。

  LEATHER

  

  革はタンニンとクロムのコンビネーションなめし。染料染めにすることにより、革本来の自然な風合いを残している。

  It is tanned with a mixture of tannin and chrome tanning, and dyed with dyestuffs to keep its natural texture.

• BUTTON

  ドットボタン、パールドット、ニッケルボタンも全て2つのツメを曲げて留める形状。廃盤だった型を特別に再生産している。また、台座裏面にはRMFBの刻印が入る。

  Pearl and nickel buttons are attached by bending its two nails. The productions of this type of buttons had once stopped, however, has been re-produced only for RMFB.

  ナイロン素材のモデルにつくハンドウォーマーポケットは、内側で2層に別れている。また、ファスナーつきの内ポケットはヴィンテージに見られた上下ともに止め金具つきのファスナーを採用している。
